FC 27 Amps and Consumables, Explained

Updated September 16, 2026

Amps are the biggest single addition to the Virtual Pro in EA SPORTS FC 27 Clubs. They are items you equip to your active archetype, they grant attribute boosts, PlayStyles and perks on top of the build you already made, and they run out. That last part is what makes them a decision rather than a reward: an Amp you burn on a friendly is an Amp you do not have in a Playoff.

This page describes what Amps are, how the slots work, what affinity changes, and how Consumables differ. The structural details here were read directly out of the shipped FC 27 game files — the Clubhouse menu tree and the Amp UI strings — rather than copied from a preview article. Where something is EA's word and not ours, it says so.

What an Amp actually is

An Amp is an inventory item, not a permanent upgrade. You hold them in an Amp Inventory, you equip one into a slot on your active archetype, and it applies its effect only while it is equipped and only to that archetype. The game's own strings describe three things an Amp can carry: attribute values, a PlayStyle, and a perk-style modifier.

That makes Amps the layer above the build. Your archetype and your Attribute Points decide the shape of your pro; the Amp bends that shape for a stretch of matches. Two players on the same archetype with the same attributes are no longer the same player on the pitch.

Update from EA's Launch Update (16 September 2026): at launch, Amps will not provide PlayStyle+. The attribute boosts and perks are there from day one; the PlayStyle+ layer is something EA says will come later. EA also says the Amps on offer will refresh regularly, so the catalogue you see in week one is not the catalogue of the season.

Three slots: two Standard and one Signature

FC 27 splits Amps into two types. The game files name them generic and signature; EA's own wording is Standard and Signature. You can hold three active at once: two Standard plus one Signature.

The practical consequence is that Signature Amps are the scarce slot. A Standard Amp is something you rotate; the Signature slot is the one you plan around, because it is the one you only get to fill once per loadout. When you swap, the game asks which slot you are filling — the choice is explicit, not automatic.

Affinity: the same Amp is not worth the same on every archetype

Amps have an affinity with archetypes. An Amp lined up with the archetype you are running is worth more than the same Amp on an archetype it was not built for.

This is the part that most changes how you plan. In FC 26 the expensive decision was which archetypes to unlock. In FC 27 every archetype is unlocked from the start and resets are free, so the cost moved: it is now in which Amps you hold, and which archetype you hold them for. If you rotate archetypes constantly, your Amps are working at a discount for most of your matches.

Amps expire, and the game tells you when

Every Amp has a durability measured in matches, not in days. Play the matches and it is gone. FC 27 has a dedicated post-match screen for it: when an Amp runs out, the end-of-match flow shows you that it expired, alongside the XP breakdown and the coins you earned.

So the Amp economy runs on the same clock as everything else in Clubs: matches played. Treat a strong Signature Amp like a consumable you are spending, because that is exactly what it is. Save it for the run that decides your division, not for a practice match.

Consumables are a different thing

Consumables sit next to Amps in the Clubhouse, under Archetypes, but they are their own category. Where an Amp modifies how your pro plays for a stretch of matches, Consumables feed the archetype itself — they are the items you spend inside the progression economy, alongside archetype coins and Attribute Points.

The two are easy to confuse because they are one menu apart and both are spent. The rule of thumb: an Amp changes a match, a Consumable changes a build.

FAQ

How many Amps can you equip in FC 27?

Three at once: two Standard Amps and one Signature Amp, all applied to your active archetype. Swapping asks you which slot you are filling.

Do Amps expire in FC 27 Clubs?

Yes. Each Amp lasts a set number of matches, not a set amount of time, and the post-match screen tells you when one has run out.

What is Amp affinity?

An Amp is tuned for particular archetypes. Equipped on an archetype it has affinity with, it does more than the same Amp on an archetype it was not designed for — which is a reason to settle on an archetype rather than rotate constantly.

Are Amps pay-to-win?

Amps are earned by playing. The Clubhouse store sells consumables and FC Points, so it is reasonable to expect money to buy throughput — we have not seen an Amp storefront in the game files and will not claim one. What money certainly does not buy is the archetype and attribute build underneath, which is still where most of a Virtual Pro's performance comes from. Plan that first.

What is the difference between an Amp and a Consumable?

An Amp is equipped to your active archetype and modifies how it plays for a limited number of matches. A Consumable is spent inside the archetype progression economy. Rule of thumb: an Amp changes a match, a Consumable changes a build.
