FC 27 Masteries: Why You Should Level Archetypes You Do Not Main

Updated September 16, 2026

Masteries are FC 27's answer to a problem FC 26 never solved: what happens to the hours you put into an archetype you stopped using. In FC 26, nothing. In FC 27, EA's design is that every archetype you develop leaves a permanent mark — reach its milestones and you unlock attribute boosts that apply to every build you use afterwards, not only the one you levelled.

That flips the order in which a sensible player progresses. It is no longer "pick one archetype and pour everything into it". It is "pick one to play, and level the others for the boosts they leave behind". This page explains the system, what is confirmed, and the honest limits of what anyone can verify right now.

What a Mastery is

A Mastery is progression attached to an archetype rather than to a build. You play with an archetype, it levels, and at certain milestones it unlocks a boost. The boost is permanent and global: it stays on your Virtual Pro even when you switch to a completely different archetype.

The effect compounds. One mastered archetype is a small edge; several mastered archetypes is a pro that is quietly better than a pro of the same level who only ever played one role. In a mode where everyone has the same attribute cap, that permanent floor is where long-term advantage now lives.

Each archetype gives a different pair of attributes

According to EA, each of the 13 archetypes boosts a unique pair of attributes, with no attribute repeated across archetypes. There is no overlap to farm: if you want a specific attribute lifted permanently, there is exactly one archetype that lifts it.

That is what makes Mastery planning a real decision instead of a grind order. The right sequence is not "strongest archetype first" — it is "the archetype whose pair patches the weakness of the build I actually play". A striker build short on physicality does not need another attacking mastery; it needs whichever archetype carries the physical pair.

Why this changes how you should progress

In FC 27 every archetype is unlocked from the start and resetting one costs nothing — that part is visible in the shipped game, not just in a press release. Removing the unlock cost removed the reason to stay on one archetype forever.

Masteries put a reason back, but a different one: you switch deliberately, level the archetype you need the boost from, then switch back to the one you actually play. The cost is no longer coins, it is matches. Which means the question to ask before a season starts is not "what is the best archetype", it is "in what order do I want these permanent boosts".

What is confirmed, and what is not

Confirmed in the game itself: all 13 archetypes are available, the archetype list is unchanged from FC 26 (Boss, Creator, Engine, Finisher, Maestro, Magician, Marauder, Progressor, Recycler, Shot Stopper, Spark, Sweeper Keeper, Target), and the Archetypes overview carries a Statistics view alongside Amps and Consumables.

From EA and not from our own measurement: the Mastery name, the milestone structure, and the claim that each archetype's attribute pair is unique. We read the FC 27 game files and the word "Mastery" appears only in Career Mode strings, so the Clubs-facing naming may differ in-game from the naming EA used in its notes. When we can confirm the in-game labels and the actual milestone values, this page gets updated with measured numbers rather than quoted ones.

EA has published one concrete example: reaching level 10 with Finisher grants +1 Finishing and +1 Composure on every archetype you play afterwards. That is the shape of a Mastery reward — EA's number, not our measurement, and the only pair anyone has been given so far.

FAQ

What are Masteries in FC 27 Clubs?

Permanent progression tied to an archetype. Level an archetype, hit its milestones, and you unlock attribute boosts that stay on your Virtual Pro across every build you use afterwards.

Do Mastery boosts carry across builds?

That is the whole point of them. Unlike Attribute Points, which belong to the build you spent them in, a Mastery boost applies to every build you use after unlocking it.

How are Masteries different from Amps?

Masteries are permanent and earned by levelling an archetype. Amps are items, equipped in slots, and they expire after a set number of matches. One is your floor, the other is a temporary ceiling.

One more difference at launch: EA's Launch Update (16 September 2026) says Amps will not provide PlayStyle+ at launch, so for now the only PlayStyles you have are the ones your archetype and level give you. Masteries never touched PlayStyles in the first place: they are attribute boosts only.

Which archetype should I master first?

The one whose attribute pair covers the weakness of the build you actually play, not the one with the best reputation. Since no two archetypes boost the same attributes, there is only ever one source for each boost.

Are the FC 27 archetypes different from FC 26?

No. We read the archetype list directly out of the shipped FC 27 executable and it matches FC 26 exactly, Engine included. Reports of a new archetype called Disruptor are not supported by the game files.
